Our innovative atmosphere control systems are improving the quality and marketability of fresh produce worldwide.
Biofresh was established in 2003 to commercialise discoveries made by the founding academics in Newcastle University’s School of Biology, relating to the introduction of safe and effective alternatives to chemical biocides used in the food technology and fresh produce sector. Biofresh has two principal business streams - Ethylene Management Systems (for use in the long-term storage of potatoes and onions) and Ozone Management Systems (for use in cold room storage and transit for the food sector, as well as room sanitization and odour removal in the food industry, as well as restaurant, hotel, and residential care). Biofresh Group is based in the UK, with our Head Office in Stocksfield, Northumberland, and operations facilities in Huddersfield and Gateshead.
In 2017 Ozone Direct (UK) Ltd joined the Biofresh Group, widening its’ activity to biocidal applications beyond the fresh produce sector. Ozone Direct are at the forefront of ozone generated odour control and removal technology and have been at the leading edge of research and development for over 15 years. A depth of experience has been established with ozone in sectors such as hotels, restaurants, care homes, and end of tenancy cleaning.
Biofresh Ozone Management Systems use natural Ozone gas to inhibit microbial spoilage in a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. Like ethylene, consumer confidence is reinforced by the absence of chemical residues. Our systems provide you with a reliable, easy to use and cost effective way to extend the life of fresh produce throughout the supply chain. Many growers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers are now reducing wastage, increasing their profits and improving their ethical credentials thanks to Biofresh.
Biofresh is an active member of the Ozone Task Force within the European Ozone Trade Association (EUOTA), all products are CE certified and Biofresh is fully compliant with the Biocidal Products Regulations (EU) 528/2012 (BPR) that came into force in 2013 governing Ozone as an active substance. Likewise, Biofresh Ethylene Management Systems hold registrations in the UK, Europe, and throughout the world.
